Preparation &
Integration

Before the experience. After the experience. Into everyday life.

Thoughtful psychological support for approaching non-ordinary experiences with greater intention and integrating what emerges into meaningful, sustainable change.

PREPARATION AND INTEGRATION

Preparation creates a foundation for the experience. Integration explores what happens afterward.
01 — PREPARATION
Creating a foundation before the experience.

Preparation provides space to explore your intentions, expectations, questions, concerns, psychological history, and the circumstances surrounding an upcoming experience.

The goal is not to predict or control what will happen. It is to approach the experience with greater awareness, psychological grounding, and intention.

INTENTION · EXPECTATIONS · READINESS · CONTEXT · SUPPORT
02 — INTEGRATION
Developing a relationship with what emerged.

Integration provides space to reflect on what arose during an experience—particularly when it feels profound, emotionally intense, confusing, symbolic, spiritual, or difficult to put into words.

The work considers not only what happened, but how the experience may relate to your relationships, patterns, values, choices, and the life you are living.

MEANING · EMOTION · PATTERNS · VALUES · EMBODIMENT

PREPARATION → EXPERIENCE → INTEGRATION
Different phases of one unfolding process.

Preparation and integration may be offered independently of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and do not require the medicine experience itself to occur within treatment with Transforma.

BEYOND MEANING-MAKING

Understanding an experience is important. Living differently because of it is something else.

Psychedelic experiences can generate insight, emotional clarity, powerful imagery, or a renewed sense of meaning. But insight alone does not necessarily create lasting change.

Integration can involve more than interpreting what happened. It may also include noticing how an experience relates to existing patterns, relationships, values, behavior, the body, and the choices made afterward.

The deeper question becomes not only:
“What did the experience mean?”

but also:
“How might this change the way I live?”

INSIGHT → PRACTICE → EMBODIMENT

Insight
Recognizing what emerged.

Practice
Giving that awareness expression through reflection, behavior, relationship, or contemplative work.

Embodiment
Allowing insight to become increasingly reflected in the way you live.

Transformation is not simply about what we understand. It is about what we learn to embody.

WHEN AN EXPERIENCE TRANSCENDS ORDINARY LANGUAGE

Some experiences are difficult to understand through ordinary ways of thinking.

Psychedelic and other non-ordinary states can sometimes involve experiences described as mystical, spiritual, archetypal, existential, or transpersonal. People may encounter powerful imagery, experiences of unity or interconnectedness, profound shifts in perspective, or questions about identity, meaning, mortality, and purpose.

These experiences can feel deeply meaningful, and sometimes difficult to reconcile with everyday life.
Integration offers space to explore them without requiring a predetermined explanation.

Rather than automatically reducing an experience to psychological pathology or treating it as objective spiritual truth, the work can hold multiple possibilities while exploring the experience with curiosity, discernment, and psychological grounding.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?

WHAT DOES THIS EXPERIENCE MEAN FOR ME?

Integration does not require certainty. Sometimes the work begins by learning how to remain in relationship with the questions.

WHAT MIGHT WE EXPLORE TOGETHER

Every experience is different. Integration begins with what is meaningful, challenging, or alive for you.

There is no single way to integrate a non-ordinary experience. Depending on what emerged and what you are navigating in your life, our work may move between reflection, psychological exploration, relationships, the body, contemplative practice, and practical change.
01 — REFLECTION
Revisiting the experience.

Creating space to explore significant moments, emotions, memories, imagery, sensations, questions, or insights that emerged.

02 — MEANING
Exploring what the experience holds for you.

Considering psychological, relational, symbolic, existential, spiritual, or transpersonal dimensions without imposing a single interpretation.

03 — PATTERNS
Recognizing what may be asking for attention.

Exploring connections between the experience and recurring emotional, relational, or behavioral patterns in everyday life.
04 — RELATIONSHIPS
Understanding how insight meets connection.

Considering intimacy, communication, boundaries, family dynamics, attachment, belonging, and how emerging awareness may affect your relationships.

05 — EMBODIMENT
Moving from knowing into living.

Exploring how insight is experienced through emotion, sensation, behavior, and the body—and what it might mean to practice a different way of being.

06 — PRACTICE
Supporting what continues after the session.

Identifying personally meaningful practices that may support continued reflection and integration, including contemplative practice, journaling, creative expression, behavioral change, or other appropriate forms of exploration.

WHAT DOES WORKING TOGETHER LOOK LIKE?

The process begins with understanding where you are, what you are navigating, and what kind of support may be most appropriate.
01 — CONNECT
Begin with a conversation.

We start by discussing what brings you to this work, where you are in your process, and what kind of support you are seeking.

02 — ORIENT
Clarify what you need.

Together, we explore your intentions, relevant psychological considerations, questions, concerns, and the broader context surrounding your experience.
03 — EXPLORE
Make space for what emerges.

Sessions provide an opportunity to reflect on experiences, emotions, insights, relationships, patterns, symbolic material, or questions that may be asking for attention.

04 — INTEGRATE
Bring insight into everyday life.

The work gradually turns toward how emerging awareness might inform your relationships, choices, values, practices, behavior, and ways of being.
CONNECT → ORIENT → EXPLORE → INTEGRATE

COMMON QUESTIONS

Do I need to have already had a psychedelic experience?
No. Preparation can begin before an experience, while integration may begin after one has occurred. The appropriate focus depends on where you are in your process.

What if my experience was difficult or confusing?
Integration does not require an experience to have been positive or profound. Challenging, emotionally intense, confusing, or unresolved experiences can also benefit from thoughtful psychological exploration.

What if my experience felt spiritual or mystical?
Spiritual, mystical, symbolic, and transpersonal dimensions can be explored without requiring a particular interpretation or belief system. The emphasis remains on curiosity, discernment, psychological grounding, and the meaning the experience holds for you.

Is preparation and integration the same as psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy?
No. Preparation and integration can be provided as standalone forms of psychological support before or after a psychedelic or other non-ordinary experience.

Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy is a more comprehensive treatment process that may include preparation, psychotherapeutic support throughout the medicine session, and integration afterward. When medical services are part of treatment, appropriately licensed medical professionals are responsible for prescribing, medication administration, medical monitoring, and other medical aspects of care within their respective scopes of practice.
