WHY COACHING

SOMETIMES YOU KNOW WHAT
NEEDS TO CHANGE.

The challenge is learning how to live differently because of what you already know.
There are times when the central question is not primarily about treating a mental health concern or understanding the origins of emotional distress.

You may already have considerable insight into yourself.

You may understand the pattern. You may recognize what no longer fits. You may even have a sense of what you want next.
And still find yourself asking:

How do I actually move forward?

Transformational coaching creates a structured space to clarify what matters, examine what may be getting in the way, and translate awareness into intentional choices, practices, and action.

The work can involve your relationships, career, creativity, identity, personal development, leadership, life transitions, or the integration of significant experiences.

But the orientation is toward:

CLARITY → POSSIBILITY → ACTION → PRACTICE → EMBODIMENT
Coaching works in the space between knowing something needs to change and beginning to live as though it can.

COACHING & PSYCHOTHERAPY ARE DISTINCT SERVICES

Psychotherapy is a clinical mental health service that may involve assessment, diagnosis, treatment of psychological concerns, and exploration of emotional or relational difficulties within a therapeutic relationship.

Coaching is a non-clinical service focused on personal development, clarity, goals, decision-making, accountability, integration, and intentional change.

Coaching is not psychotherapy and is not a substitute for mental health treatment when psychotherapy or another clinical service is indicated.

Then our signature distinction:

THERAPY
Understand what shapes you.

COACHING
Create what comes next.

BOTH CAN SUPPORT TRANSFORMATION.
THEY SIMPLY BEGIN WITH DIFFERENT QUESTIONS.
AREAS OF EXPLORATION

WHAT MIGHT WE
WORK ON TOGETHER?

Coaching begins with where you are, and becomes oriented toward where you want to go.
There is no single reason people seek coaching. Sometimes there is a clear goal or decision. Other times there is simply a growing awareness that something in life is ready to change.

Our work can create space to clarify what matters, examine what may be limiting movement, and develop practical ways of bringing greater intention into your relationships, choices, work, and everyday life.
01 — CLARITY & DIRECTION
Understanding what you want next.

Clarifying priorities, values, possibilities, and the direction you want your life to take when the path forward feels uncertain or undefined.

02 — LIFE TRANSITIONS
Navigating periods of change intentionally.

Support through career changes, relationship transitions, relocation, identity shifts, new chapters, endings, and moments when an old way of living no longer seems to fit.

03 — RELATIONSHIPS & CONNECTION
Becoming more intentional in how you relate.

Exploring communication, boundaries, recurring relational patterns, intimacy, connection, and the kind of relationships you want to create and sustain.

04 — PURPOSE & MEANING
Exploring what makes your life feel meaningful.

Clarifying values, purpose, priorities, creativity, contribution, and the deeper questions that can emerge when conventional definitions of success no longer feel sufficient.

05 — PATTERNS & PRACTICE
Turning awareness into different choices.

Recognizing habits and patterns that may be limiting movement and developing practices, structures, and behaviors that support the changes you want to make.

06 — INTEGRATION & EMBODIED CHANGE
Living what you have discovered.

Translating meaningful insights—from personal growth, contemplative practice, significant life experiences, or other transformational experiences—into relationships, decisions, behavior, and everyday life.
YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE THE DESTINATION FIGURED OUT.

Sometimes coaching begins simply by recognizing that the way you have been living is no longer the way you want to continue.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PATH

DIFFERENT FORMS OF SUPPORT
FOR DIFFERENT KINDS OF WORK.

Therapy and coaching can both support meaningful change. The difference lies in the nature, purpose, and scope of the work.
Because I am both a licensed psychotherapist and a coach, people sometimes wonder which type of work is most appropriate for them.
While there can be overlap in the kinds of conversations that occur, psychotherapy and coaching are distinct professional relationships. The goal is not to place one above the other, but to determine which form of support best fits what you are seeking.

THERAPY
When healing, psychological understanding, or clinical care is central.

Psychotherapy may be appropriate when you are seeking support for emotional distress, mental health concerns, trauma, relationship difficulties, longstanding psychological patterns, or experiences that benefit from clinical assessment and treatment.

Therapy can explore both the past and present, including how earlier experiences continue to influence relationships, emotions, identity, and behavior.

The emphasis may include:
Emotional wellbeing · Mental health · Relationships · Trauma & attachment · Psychological patterns · Clinical treatment · Healing & integration

Small note:
Psychotherapy is provided only where Orlando is legally authorized to practice.
COACHING
When development, direction, and intentional change are central.

Coaching may be appropriate when you are generally functioning well but want support clarifying what comes next, navigating a transition, developing new patterns, strengthening relationships, pursuing meaningful goals, or translating insight into action.

The work is oriented toward your present circumstances and the life you are intentionally creating.

The emphasis may include:
Clarity · Direction · Personal development · Relationships · Life transitions · Purpose · Accountability · Intentional action

Small note:
Coaching is a non-clinical service and does not include mental health diagnosis or treatment.

NOT SURE WHICH ONE FITS?
You don't need to determine that on your own before reaching out.

We can begin by discussing what you are looking for and whether coaching, psychotherapy, or another form of support appears most appropriate.

If your needs fall outside the scope of coaching, I may recommend psychotherapy or another appropriate clinical resource rather than attempting to address those needs through coaching.

BEGIN THE CONVERSATION →
THE COACHING PROCESS

CHANGE BECOMES POSSIBLE
WHEN INSIGHT BEGINS TO MOVE.

Coaching creates a structured space to understand where you are, clarify where you want to go, and begin closing the distance between the two.
The coaching process is collaborative and individualized. We begin with what is happening in your life now and explore the changes, questions, possibilities, or goals that are asking for your attention.

From there, the work moves between reflection and action—developing greater clarity, experimenting with different ways of responding, and creating practices that support meaningful change beyond the conversation itself.
01 — CLARIFY
Understand where you are and what matters now.

We begin by exploring what brings you to coaching, what feels ready to change, and what you want to understand, create, strengthen, or move toward.

02 — EXPLORE
Recognize what may be shaping the way forward.

Together, we examine patterns, assumptions, relationships, habits, values, competing priorities, and possibilities that may be influencing your choices or limiting movement.

03 — PRACTICE
Turn awareness into intentional action.

Insight becomes something to experiment with. We identify meaningful actions, conversations, practices, boundaries, decisions, or behavioral shifts that allow you to begin engaging with life differently.

04 — INTEGRATE
Make change increasingly your own.

We reflect on what is working, what you are learning, where resistance continues to appear, and how emerging changes can become more sustainable and embodied over time.
CLARIFY → EXPLORE → PRACTICE → INTEGRATE
Not a rigid sequence, but an ongoing movement between awareness and action.
ACCOUNTABILITY WITHOUT PERFORMANCE
Coaching can also provide a consistent place to return to the intentions you have set for yourself.

Accountability in this work is not about being judged for what you did or did not accomplish. It is about becoming curious when intentions and actions diverge—understanding what happened, adjusting when necessary, and continuing to move toward what matters.
THE QUESTION IS NOT ONLY “WHAT DO I WANT TO CHANGE?”

IT IS ALSO “HOW AM I WILLING TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT CHANGE?”
WHO THIS WORK MAY SERVE

YOU MAY NOT BE LOOKING
FOR HEALING.
YOU MAY BE READY FOR GROWTH.

Sometimes the question is no longer simply “Why am I this way?” It becomes “Who do I want to become from here?”
Coaching can be valuable when you are ready to engage actively with change and recognize that some aspect of your life is asking for greater clarity, intention, or movement.

You may have already done considerable inner work. You may understand yourself well. You may even know what needs to change.

And still find yourself standing at the threshold between knowing and doing.

01 — YOU'RE AT A CROSSROADS
A chapter is changing.

A relationship, career, location, identity, or way of living may be shifting, and you want to navigate what comes next with greater intention.

02 — YOU'VE OUTGROWN SOMETHING
What once worked no longer fits.

Your life may look successful from the outside while something internally is asking for change, expansion, greater authenticity, or a different definition of success.

03 — YOU KNOW THE PATTERN
But understanding it hasn't changed it.

You have insight into your habits, relationships, or recurring choices and want to experiment with different ways of responding and living.

04 — YOU'RE SEEKING DIRECTION
There are possibilities, but not yet a clear path.

You may be exploring purpose, creativity, relationships, professional direction, lifestyle, or a larger question about what you want the next chapter of your life to become.

05 — SOMETHING SHIFTED YOUR PERSPECTIVE
An experience changed the way you see yourself or your life.

A significant life event, travel experience, retreat, contemplative practice, or other transformational experience may have opened new questions about how you want to live moving forward.

06 — YOU'RE READY TO PARTICIPATE DIFFERENTLY
Growth is becoming something you want to practice.

Rather than waiting for circumstances to change, you are interested in examining how your own choices, habits, relationships, boundaries, and actions can become part of creating what comes next.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE IN CRISIS
TO WANT YOUR LIFE TO CHANGE.
Growth can begin with difficulty. It can also begin with curiosity, possibility, and the recognition that you are ready for something different.
COACHING BEYOND CALIFORNIA & NEVADA
Because coaching is distinct from psychotherapy, coaching may provide a way to work together for individuals who are not seeking clinical mental health treatment and who live outside the jurisdictions where I practice psychotherapy.

Availability depends on the nature of the work and applicable requirements. We can begin with a conversation to determine whether coaching is an appropriate fit.

INTEGRATIVE COACHING

DIFFERENT WAYS OF KNOWING
CAN REVEAL DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES.

Sometimes clarity comes through conversation. Sometimes we discover something by paying attention differently.
Coaching at Transforma can extend beyond conversation and goal-setting. When appropriate and desired, our work may incorporate contemplative, somatic, reflective, creative, or symbolic practices that offer additional ways of exploring experience.

These practices are not presented as answers or belief systems. They are tools for attention, ways of slowing down, noticing what may be operating beneath familiar patterns, exploring different perspectives, and creating space for something new to emerge.

What we use depends on you: your goals, interests, worldview, comfort, and what seems genuinely useful to the work.

Four ways practices may support coaching

01 — CONTEMPLATIVE
Creating enough space to notice.

Meditation, mindfulness, reflective inquiry, and other contemplative practices can support greater awareness of thoughts, emotions, patterns, and the ways we respond to experience.

02 — SOMATIC
Listening to what the body is communicating.

Attention to sensation, breath, emotion, movement, and embodied responses can offer information that may not immediately appear through thought alone.

03 — SYMBOLIC & CREATIVE
Exploring what emerges beyond literal language.

Dreams, imagery, metaphor, journaling, creative reflection, and symbolic tools can provide different perspectives on questions, transitions, patterns, and possibilities.

When desired, tarot may also be used as a symbolic prompt for reflection and inquiry rather than as a predictive or prescriptive system.

04 — INTEGRATION
Turning experience into something you can live.

Reflection and practice can help translate insight into choices, relationships, behaviors, routines, boundaries, and other tangible expressions of change.
THE PRACTICE IS NOT THE POINT.

WHAT IT HELPS YOU NOTICE, AND WHAT YOU DO WITH THAT AWARENESS, IS.

No particular practice, spiritual perspective, or belief system is required to participate in coaching.

THE COACHING RELATIONSHIP

A SPACE FOR REFLECTION.
A STRUCTURE FOR MOVEMENT.

Coaching is collaborative. You bring your life, questions, possibilities, and willingness to engage. I bring perspective, curiosity, structure, and a space to keep the work moving.
There is no predetermined version of who you are supposed to become.

Our work begins with understanding what matters to you and what you want to explore, change, create, or strengthen. From there, we develop a coaching relationship that balances thoughtful reflection with meaningful action.

Some conversations may focus on a specific decision or challenge. Others may explore larger questions of direction, relationships, purpose, identity, or the way you want to participate in your life.

As the work develops, we continue returning to a central question:

Is the way you are living becoming more aligned with what you say matters to you?

01 — BEGIN WITH A CONVERSATION
Let's understand what you're looking for.

We begin by discussing what brings you to coaching, what you hope might change, and whether coaching appears to be an appropriate fit for the kind of support you are seeking.

02 — DEFINE THE DIRECTION
Clarify what you want the work to support.

Rather than requiring perfectly defined goals from the beginning, we identify an initial direction and allow greater clarity to develop through the coaching process.

03 — WORK WITH WHAT EMERGES
Reflection and action inform one another.

Sessions may include conversation, inquiry, practical experimentation, integrative practices, accountability, and reflection on what you are discovering between sessions.

04 — CONTINUE, ADJUST, OR COMPLETE
The process evolves as you do.

We periodically consider what has changed, what still needs attention, and whether the work should deepen, shift direction, or come to a natural completion.
YOU SET THE DIRECTION.
WE PAY ATTENTION TO THE PROCESS.
The goal is not dependence on coaching. It is developing greater clarity, agency, and capacity to navigate your life with increasing intention.
COACHING FORMAT
INDIVIDUAL COACHING
One-to-one coaching centered on your goals, development, relationships, transitions, integration, or personal direction.

VIRTUAL SESSIONS
Coaching can be conducted remotely, allowing the work to fit more naturally into your life and potentially making coaching available beyond California and Nevada, subject to the nature of the work and applicable requirements.

ONGOING OR FOCUSED WORK
Depending on your goals, coaching may support either a focused period of exploration or a longer developmental process.

COACHING FAQ

QUESTIONS BEFORE
GETTING STARTED?

Understanding the nature of the work can help you decide whether coaching feels like the right place to begin.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychotherapy is a clinical healthcare service that may include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health concerns. It can also explore emotional distress, trauma, relationships, developmental experiences, and psychological patterns requiring clinical care.
Coaching is a non-clinical service focused on personal development, clarity, goals, intentional change, integration, and forward movement. Although meaningful personal material may arise in coaching, coaching does not include mental health diagnosis or treatment and is not a substitute for psychotherapy.

DO I NEED TO KNOW WHETHER I NEED COACHING OR THERAPY BEFORE CONTACTING YOU?

No.

If you are unsure, we can begin by discussing what you are looking for. If your needs appear more appropriate for psychotherapy or another form of clinical care, I will recommend that rather than attempting to address clinical needs through coaching.

CAN I WORK WITH YOU IF I LIVE OUTSIDE CALIFORNIA or Nevada?

Potentially.

Psychotherapy is limited by professional licensing and jurisdictional requirements. Because coaching is a distinct, non-clinical service, it may be available to individuals outside California or Nevada depending on the nature of the work and applicable requirements.

We can determine whether coaching is an appropriate option during an initial conversation.

CAN COACHING INCLUDE MEDITATION OR OTHER INTEGRATIVE PRACTICES?

Yes, when they are appropriate to your goals and something you want to explore.

Our work may incorporate contemplative, somatic, reflective, creative, or symbolic practices as tools for inquiry and self-understanding. No particular spiritual perspective, practice, or belief system is required.

CAN TAROT OR SYMBOLIC PRACTICES BE PART OF COACHING?

They can be, if you are interested in working that way.

Symbolic tools such as tarot can be approached as prompts for reflection, imagination, perspective, and inquiry rather than as predictive or authoritative systems.

You are never required to use them as part of coaching.

CAN COACHING HELP ME INTEGRATE A PSYCHEDELIC OR OTHER NON-ORDINARY EXPERIENCE?

Integration-oriented coaching may sometimes be appropriate for exploring meaning, values, personal development, and how insights from significant experiences might inform everyday life.

However, coaching does not provide, prescribe, administer, source, recommend, or supervise psychedelic substances, nor does it replace appropriate medical or mental health care.

If your experience involves significant psychological distress, safety concerns, or symptoms requiring clinical assessment or treatment, psychotherapy or other appropriate healthcare may be recommended instead.

IS COACHING CONFIDENTIAL?

Coaching is approached with respect for your privacy and discretion. However, coaching is not psychotherapy or healthcare, and the legal protections and requirements that apply to psychotherapy may not apply to a coaching relationship in the same way.

The terms, privacy practices, and expectations of the coaching relationship will be discussed before beginning services.

CAN I SWITCH BETWEEN COACHING AND THERAPY?

Possibly, but the services should remain clearly distinct.

If the nature of your needs changes, we can discuss whether a different form of support would be more appropriate. Any transition would involve clarifying the professional relationship, scope of services, and applicable requirements rather than simply blending psychotherapy and coaching together.

HOW LONG DOES COACHING LAST?

There is no single timeline.

Some people seek coaching around a specific decision, transition, or goal, while others engage in a longer developmental process. We can periodically evaluate what is useful, what is changing, and whether continuing the work supports what you are trying to create.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Begin with a conversation.

You do not need to arrive with perfectly defined goals or know exactly what kind of support you need. We can start by understanding what brings you here and determining whether coaching appears to be an appropriate fit.

BEGIN THE CONVERSATION →
WHAT COMES NEXT?

YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE
IT ALL FIGURED OUT.

Sometimes change begins with a clear goal.

Other times, it begins with a quieter recognition that something in your life is ready to be different.

You may be standing between what has been and what comes next—questioning an old direction, imagining a new possibility, or simply becoming more intentional about the person you want to be and the life you want to create.
You don't need to arrive with all the answers.

You only need a willingness to become curious about what comes next—and your role in creating it.

INSIGHT CAN OPEN THE DOOR.

WHAT YOU DO NEXT
BEGINS TO SHAPE YOUR LIFE.

If you're ready to explore what comes next, we can begin with a conversation.
